We love working with “do-it-yourself “couples, and we are always astounded by the beautiful details they create for their weddings. There are so many stunning ways to customize your special day but sometimes it is hard to filter through all of the wonderful options to find what’s right for you. One of our favorite DIY projects are garlands because there are so many different ways to adorn your space with these fun and easy-to-make strands. We’ve picked out four of our favorite garlands here, but for more wedding inspiration and DIY projects follow our Pinterest page! Fabric Strips It doesn’t get much easier than this do-it-yourself project; all you need is fabric and some string. You can choose to either cut or rip your strips of fabric, then tie them around a string. What makes this garland so versatile is that you can choose the colors, type of fabric, length and width. To create a fun and bold look go with bright colors, or for an ethereal look use neutrals and incorporate a shimmery fabric. This garland looks amazing as a backdrop for photos or even a ceremony backdrop. Coffee Filter These light and airy garlands will make a huge impact on your wedding décor. You can make them by dyeing coffee filters to your desired color, air-drying the filters (or put them in the dryer for no more than ten minutes), and then using a needle and thread to bind 12 or so filters together. Use your fingers to gently fluff the edges up into a round shape, and thread together. We adore when this type of garland is hung above tables or a dance floor - the soft texture of this garland adds visual interest to your space and is a great inexpensive way to fill a reception room that’s feeling a little empty! Dip-Dyed Coffee Filter That’s right! There are not one but TWO different coffee filter garlands on this list. Despite the coffee filters undergoing the same process as the first garland, they could not be more different. These dip-dyed coffee filters strung one at a time bring a romantic bohemian feel to any venue. Whether strung along the ceilings or behind the dessert table, they are a great way to feature your color scheme without using flowers. Carnation We love the lush and sophisticated look of carnation garlands. To create a simple monochromatic strand, use the same color, or play with color blocking and ombre with several shades of this fun flower. These gorgeous florals will look fabulous behind your dessert table or even as aisle runners for your ceremony, and with a garland this lovely you’ll have trouble using it in only one place.

With engagement season coming to a close and wedding season approaching, it’s time we look at some big trends we’ll be seeing in 2015. As weddings become more and more personalized, cakes are becoming less traditional. While the classics are always stunning, we are excited to see more unique cakes taking center stage. We picked out some of the top cake trends that we just can’t wait to see this year! Metallic CakesOne of our favorite trends we’re seeing in 2015 is cakes with metallic elements! The addition of gold or silver details can transform a simple cake into a glamorous masterpiece. We especially love cakes that mix metallics, whether it’s silver and gold, rose gold and pearl, minimalist rose gold stripes, or a subtle gold ombre. The combinations are endless and neutral enough to fit into any weddings color scheme. Textured CakesAnother theme we’re noticing in 2015 is an emphasis on texture. From soft cascading ruffles, to neat and clean polka dots, texture is a great way to add some interest to a simple white cake. A textured cake is also the perfect backdrop for over-the-top flowers or a large cake topper. No matter your style, it’s easy to incorporate this eclectic detail into your wedding! Naked CakesIn terms of cake, “naked” simply means that the cake is only frosted between layers and not on the sides. The end result of this unique update can range from ethereal, to fun and playful! Naked cakes allow for touches like berries between layers, or a dusting of powdered sugar to really shine. Planning on having a red velvet cake, or another fun colored cake? A naked cake will showcase it beautifully.

So you think you’ve found your venue…Being newly engaged brings so much excitement to your life, but it can also be a bit overwhelming. From telling your family and friends, to picking a dress- there are tons of things to do and decisions to make. However, one of the most important decisions is picking a venue. The venue you choose sets the tone for your wedding; whether it is formal or casual, it has to fit your wedding vision as well as the timeline. So when you finally decide on a venue it’s easy to commit without asking too many questions. Luckily, one of our favorite blogs Premier Bride Boston has compiled a list of “30 Questions to Ask A Prospective Wedding Venue”. We’ve answered the top five questions we feel are most important for our busy engaged couples! “Do you have vendor restrictions or a list of preferred vendors I must work with?”
“What are your parking options for guests?”This might seem like an obvious question but if your venue is in the city or another unique location parking can be a major issue. Many venues in cities do not provide guest parking, particularly if your venue is not a hotel. If your venue does not provide guest parking, we often suggest for a couple to provide transportation, for example a trolley or party bus, from the designated guest hotel to the venue and back for easy and on-time guest arrival. “Where can we set up a cocktail hour?”
“At what time can vendors arrive to set up (this is very important for a band, DJ, florist, designer, etc. to set up) and when do they need to make sure the room is cleared?”
“When do you need the final head count?”This is integral to your wedding timeline, as this is the date all of your RSVP’s will need to be in by. If you have any guests that you know will not be able to commit to attending until the last minute, be sure to discuss this with your venue in advance. This will make the process much smoother in the event that you need to make any changes to your guest list.

Venue Coordinator vs. Day-of Coordinator Venue coordinators are a fantastic addition to your wedding. They oversee the facility and the staff they provide on the day of. Venue coordinators often help with menu selection, recommend vendors that the venue has previously worked with and sometimes even help coordinate your wedding timeline. They have expert knowledge about the venue and know the ins and outs of general set up, but the main difference between the venue coordinator and DOC (day-of coordinator) is that a venue coordinator works for the VENUE. A DOC works for YOU. We consider the relationship between a couple and their DOC to be one of the most important things when it comes to planning your walk down the aisle. Having a day-of coordinator who you connect with and who understands how you want your wedding to unfold saves you, and your venue coordinator, a lot of unnecessary stress. While most venue coordinators are likely not interest in any part of your wedding offsite, we are with you 100% of the way- whether it's leading your rehearsal, picking up breakfast for the bridal party, or venue coordination at the church or park for the ceremony. Your DOC will know every detail of your wedding- who your maid of honor is, which centerpieces go on what tables, and when it’s the perfect time to cut the cake. We are on-the-spot problem solvers that share your vision for your big day- so when the best man loses his speech or when your dress isn’t bustling correctly, you have someone to help. The day-of coordinators at Without A Hitch Boston know how to handle all of these small but important details that makes all the difference on your big day.
Having both a venue coordinator and a DOC that work together makes for a flawless wedding day. Our team at Without A Hitch Boston loves working with venue coordinators to ensure that your wedding day is exactly the way you dreamed it to be.
