Summer is quickly approaching, and so are the sweltering temperatures. After a long and brutal winter, the hot and humid temperatures are extremely welcome- except at your wedding! Here are some tips for dealing with the heat at your summer wedding: Keep Makeup Fresh Keeping your makeup looking fresh and flawless at your wedding is one of your top priorities! To keep your makeup from melting and running down your face, be sure to first use a light-weight, oil free primer, followed by a cream concealer, and finally a silicone-based foundation (the silicone prevents foundation from seeping into your pores or dribbling down your chin), with SPF. For eyes and cheeks, cream-based eye shadows, and blushes stay on best in hot temps, and always, always, use waterproof mascara (regardless of the season). Keep oil blotting sheets, and an electric fan on hand (in your Event Survival Kit), and keep your makeup in place with a setting spray- we love Urban Decay’s All Nighter Makeup Setting spray or Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray With Aloe, Herb and Rosewater (SMELLS FANTASTIC!) Summer updo’s are great because they keep your hair off your shoulders and away from your neck (prime sweating spot), and keep away the frizz! Some trending hairstyles we love provided by Shine by Yahoo! include a undone chignon, fancy ponytail, braided sock bun, and a classic side-knot. We also love using hairpieces to accessorize and keep your hair off your face. To achieve this look, style your hair up or down with delicate headbands, blinged-out clips, or floral headpieces, for a cool, summerlike ‘do. No matter the look, be sure to use plenty of anti-frizz product, bobby pins, and hairspray to avoid any loose locks on breezy days! Wear Light-Weight Dresses Avoid heavy satin gowns at summer weddings to keep cool! Any flowing, chiffon, and covered in lace dress will keep you staying cool and sweat free on a hot summers day or night. Not interested in a long dress? Lucky for you, mid-calf, knee-length and mini-dresses are all the rage, and definitely summer-approved. Whether you walk down in the aisle in one, or complete a ware-drop change so you don’t sweat dancing the night away, we definitely approve of this trend. Cool guests off at outdoor weddings with pitchers of ice water at the entrance of your ceremony. Want to give your guests an extra cool-down? Double the use of your wedding program by printing it on a fan, for guests to cool themselves off with it. Not a fan of the fans? Print your names and wedding date on sides of Wayfarer-style glasses for guests to wear throughout the ceremony and the rest of the night! Your guests will love the fun favor, and will protect their eyes from the bright sun.

Each unique wedding requires unique favors to be handed out. Read below for some of our favorites!
Beach Wedding We love seeing beachy-themed favors handed out at beach or nautical themed weddings. At one of our upcoming weddings, the couple is handing out coral topped bottle stoppers! Some of our other favorite ideas for a beach wedding include bags of sea glass, sunscreen with personalized labels, or sunglasses and flip flops! Rustic Wedding At rustic weddings, there are plenty of opportunities to show off your DIY skill in party favor form. Some of our favorite favors are jars of homemade jams, lip balms, local maple syrup or honey. At one of our recent weddings, we saw personalized packets of sunflower seeds handed out as place holders, with the guests name and table written on the back! Another favor we love is s’mores or hot chocolate kits- inexpensive and memorable! City Wedding A fun favor we love for city weddings is a city walking kit. This can include a map marked with your favorite attractions, menus from local restaurants, a preloaded Charliecard (or for whatever city your wedding is in) good for one ride, and band aids to help with those pesky blisters! For the booze loving… Some favors we love for any booze-loving couple include homemade limoncello, a classy hangover kit, or personalized shot glasses either all together or on their own. Kids at Heart One of the latest trends we love seeing at weddings is the candy bar. This fun dessert station is an awesome way to skip out on the pastries and give your guests the option to go home with a bag of candy they pick out. Set out a variety of candies with scoops and personalized candy bags, and your guests will be sent home with a fun treat! For any wedding We love the idea of making a donation to a charity of your choice. Instead of leaving favors at each guest’s seats, place a card stating a donation has been made in your guests name in lieu of a favor. What favors are you handing out at your wedding? Tell us in the comment section below! |
