We love working with “do-it-yourself “couples, and we are always astounded by the beautiful details they create for their weddings. There are so many stunning ways to customize your special day but sometimes it is hard to filter through all of the wonderful options to find what’s right for you. One of our favorite DIY projects are garlands because there are so many different ways to adorn your space with these fun and easy-to-make strands. We’ve picked out four of our favorite garlands here, but for more wedding inspiration and DIY projects follow our Pinterest page! Fabric Strips It doesn’t get much easier than this do-it-yourself project; all you need is fabric and some string. You can choose to either cut or rip your strips of fabric, then tie them around a string. What makes this garland so versatile is that you can choose the colors, type of fabric, length and width. To create a fun and bold look go with bright colors, or for an ethereal look use neutrals and incorporate a shimmery fabric. This garland looks amazing as a backdrop for photos or even a ceremony backdrop. Coffee Filter These light and airy garlands will make a huge impact on your wedding décor. You can make them by dyeing coffee filters to your desired color, air-drying the filters (or put them in the dryer for no more than ten minutes), and then using a needle and thread to bind 12 or so filters together. Use your fingers to gently fluff the edges up into a round shape, and thread together. We adore when this type of garland is hung above tables or a dance floor - the soft texture of this garland adds visual interest to your space and is a great inexpensive way to fill a reception room that’s feeling a little empty! Dip-Dyed Coffee Filter That’s right! There are not one but TWO different coffee filter garlands on this list. Despite the coffee filters undergoing the same process as the first garland, they could not be more different. These dip-dyed coffee filters strung one at a time bring a romantic bohemian feel to any venue. Whether strung along the ceilings or behind the dessert table, they are a great way to feature your color scheme without using flowers. Carnation We love the lush and sophisticated look of carnation garlands. To create a simple monochromatic strand, use the same color, or play with color blocking and ombre with several shades of this fun flower. These gorgeous florals will look fabulous behind your dessert table or even as aisle runners for your ceremony, and with a garland this lovely you’ll have trouble using it in only one place.
