1. Establish a Timeline
The first question everyone is going to ask you is “when is the wedding?” Even though it’s important to know a general date for your family and friends, establishing a timeline is truly the first step in starting to plan a wedding. When choosing a date, think about what season is ideal, holidays or family events you need to plan around, and how long you want your engagement to be. This will help you begin to plan how soon you’ll need to book a venue, find a dress, and plan all other aspects of your fabulous wedding.
2. Set a Budget
A budget is ESSENTIAL for planning a wedding. Sit down and determine how much each family is contributing and how much are you (the bride and groom) are willing to contribute. The amount of money you have to spend on the wedding will affect every decision and purchase you make, so it is crucial to figure out a number before you book your dream venue, or buy that $10,000 dress.
3. Pick a Location
This is the next step in dreaming up your fantasy wedding. All the details will fall into place after you pick a location- from a dress style, to a color scheme, to the size of the wedding. Once you’ve established a location and venue, you can finally begin with the details.
4. Draft a Guest list
As you decide who to invite to your celebration it’s important to remember logistics- How many people can the venue hold? How many dinners can you afford to serve? Which great aunt or uncle is essential to invite? Keeping down the size of the wedding can keep down the cost but sometimes you cannot avoid inviting all 100 of your first cousins.
