Event locations are not always the most inviting of spaces. With the high ceilings and concrete floors of big halls, generic looking banquet spaces, or your average backyard, there are plenty of bland locations looking for an overhaul. Luckily, transforming an event space is easy to do- even with a low budget. 1. Create a Cozy Environment with Warm Lighting In November, we were able to transform a church basement with white walls, high ceilings, and fluorescent lights into a cozy, fall wedding space with a few great ideas from the bride. Instead of typical flower centerpieces, we lined the reception tables with hundreds of different sized mason jars filled with candles. Once the fluorescent lights were dimmed and the candles were lit, the white space was turned into a romantic and magical reception hall. 2. Use Color for a Youthful Feel Many Bar/Bat Mitzvahs are held in banquet halls, which can feel too mature and sophisticated for a young teenager. However, these rooms can easily be converted into fun space for a coming of age party by using pops of color. Colored table cloths, balloons, and up-lighting can easily transform a boring ballroom into a celebration space to remember! 3. Embrace Nature for an Outdoor Event Although birthday parties, bridal showers or fundraisers in outdoor settings are fun on a warm spring or summer day, the decorations can appear synthetic and manufactured in a natural setting. This can be avoided by embracing the environment your event is in! Hang decorations, such as string lights, from low branches, or use a tablecloth color that’s similar to a color in the area (ie., sage if the area is filled with greens, or lavender if the area is filled with purple flowers), to create a setting that fits into the scenery.
