The day started off with Katie and Patrick at separate hotels- Katie getting ready with help from Beauty in Motion at the fabulous Boston Marriott Long Wharf and Patrick at the classy Boston Harbor Hotel. Both had spacious suites to get ready in surrounded by their family, bridal party and groomsmen.
Katie and Patrick's wedding was a picturesque Boston event, and what could be a better setting than the New England Aquarium with its stunning views of the Boston Harbor. This wedding was one that engaged couples dream about, with fabulous weather (and a spectacular sunset!), a flawless location, and a very much in-love couple. We can't thank Christine and Peter from Elizabeth Bradford Photography enough for letting us show off their stunning photography here (in case you want to see more of their work, check out their blog here!). Patrick headed over to the Boston Marriott Long Wharf for a first look in the lobby - WOW it was emotional and stunning. After much debate over a first look location, we know Katie and Patrick picked the perfect spot (check out the half-circle window pictures, our favorite!). We headed to the New England Aquarium from there, where the patio was set up perfectly for the ceremony, and photos during cocktail hour. Every detail was done perfectly and so tastefully-from the guest book and lobster trap themed gift table, to Patrick McDonell's bagpiping, to Katie's navy-clad bridesmaids (whose dresses were complimented perfectly with coral bouquets provided by Laurel Hill Floral Design, and a matching cake from Icing on the Cake). After the ceremony Katie and Patrick had the opportunity to take photos inside the aquarium, while we set up the tent for the reception with the help of Boston Uplights and Rentals Unlimited. Weeks later we still can't stop thinking about the location of the ceremony and especially the pictures they took at the top of the tank inside the aquarium- what a perfect New England wedding! The reception that followed was a wildly good time documented by McElroy Films and DJed by DM Productions- take a look at the dancing, emotional toasts, and a love to last a lifetime. Congratulations, Katie and Patrick! Thanks for letting us be a part of your big day!

We are quickly approaching the holiday season, which means one thing: it’s almost engagement season! According to Wedding Wire, 33% of engagements happen between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, AKA the holiday season. Taking the first steps after an engagement can be overwhelming and scary, but we’re here to help! Whether you’re expecting a proposal this winter, or are a new bride-to-be, we have all the steps to begin planning the perfect wedding! 1. Establish a Timeline The first question everyone is going to ask you is “when is the wedding?” Even though it’s important to know a general date for your family and friends, establishing a timeline is truly the first step in starting to plan a wedding. When choosing a date, think about what season is ideal, holidays or family events you need to plan around, and how long you want your engagement to be. This will help you begin to plan how soon you’ll need to book a venue, find a dress, and plan all other aspects of your fabulous wedding. 2. Set a Budget A budget is ESSENTIAL for planning a wedding. Sit down and determine how much each family is contributing and how much are you (the bride and groom) are willing to contribute. The amount of money you have to spend on the wedding will affect every decision and purchase you make, so it is crucial to figure out a number before you book your dream venue, or buy that $10,000 dress. 3. Pick a Location This is the next step in dreaming up your fantasy wedding. All the details will fall into place after you pick a location- from a dress style, to a color scheme, to the size of the wedding. Once you’ve established a location and venue, you can finally begin with the details. 4. Draft a Guest list As you decide who to invite to your celebration it’s important to remember logistics- How many people can the venue hold? How many dinners can you afford to serve? Which great aunt or uncle is essential to invite? Keeping down the size of the wedding can keep down the cost but sometimes you cannot avoid inviting all 100 of your first cousins. 5. Users can spend hours on the site looking through endless posts, which is how we discovered BuzzFeed's numerous posts on DIY wedding. This recent post, for example, features 44 Loveliest Lavender Wedding Details. The KnotThe Knot is a perfect "do-all" website for a DIY bride. The site features interactive tools and resources for all aspects of planning a wedding. From preparing a budget to finding a perfect dress, this site has it all. Our favorite part is The Wedding Shop, where brides can order customized invitations, gifts, and favors at a low price. Our favorite guide to DIY weddings is obvious- Pinterest! This is where we find the majority of our bridal inspiration for all facets of a wedding. Users are able to create different theme-based "Boards" with "Pins" (pictures) to collect their wedding ideas and projects. On our Pinterest page we have boards ranging from Save the Date ideas, to Decor designs to help our brides plan their weddings. Our favorite recent wedding post is a pin for gorgeous lighting from an outdoor wedding. Recently, we've been seeing more and more brides using Pinterest as a resource for planning their dream wedding, and we can't blame them. If you're not familiar with the crafty, albeit addicting, website, Pinterest is a pinboard-style photo-sharing site that allows users to pin images onto their own personal boards based off of a variety of categories ranging from Home Décor and Photography, to Fitness and Gardening. Pinterest's Weddings category is arguably one of it's most visited tabs. Meet The Pinterest Bride. She utilizes Pinterest as a tool to collect and sort all of her wedding day ideas into it's rightful categories. Wedding Flowers, Veils and Bridal Accessories, Cakes, Bridesmaids, Hairstyles, and, of course, Gowns, are all examples of boards that brides can create to organize their wedding day ideas. Pinterest serves not only as a resource but also as an inspiration for brides across the globe. The site also has a heavy focus on DIY projects for brides on a budget. These DIY projects include how to make your own wedding backdrop, wedding bouquet, centerpieces, and even how to do your own wedding day hairstyle – to name a few. Some argue that Pinterest is to blame when it comes to the widening gap between bride's expectations and what their budget can actually afford (CS Monitor). However, we see Pinterest as a helpful tool, especially when brides take advantage of the DIY advice the site offers! Be sure to check out our Pin of the Day on Thursdays which can be found on our Facebook page, as well as our Pinterest page! |
